History & Discography

In 2002, Dustin Boyle co-founded Sound Studios with Jacob Stadfeld; this was to be the first incarnation of what Class A Studios is today.  Formerly located behind the Hartmeyer Ice Arena on Madison’s east side was a crudely built out warehouse space that was originally a 24 track ADAT based studio.  Slowly Pro Tools was put into service but it was short lived as the fire department forcibly shut the place down due to lack of proper permits.

After Sound Studios was shut down Dustin and Jacob parted ways and focused on different areas;  Jacob went on to start a fashion company and dabbled in booking of larger acts in Madison, while Dustin focused on building a small live sound company.  In 2007 Dustin met and started dating a woman by the name of Britny Rose De anda, together they started recording bands at people’s houses under the name Pop-Sensation Productions.  After a few records they decided to rent a small two room space in the Robert Cox rehearsal studios on Park St.  Pop-Sensations maintained a side-by side live sound and studio recording service throughout the course of the relationship which ended upon dissolution in 2010.  During that time, Pop-Sensations Productions hosted a couple of radio shows on WSUM, one called the Pop-Sensation Hour that featured local live in studio guests for either interviews and/or acoustic performances, and another called the Cultureal “Sin”dicate that featured a mix of local bands for live on air production as well as regional and national hip hop artists that included some of the members from Rhymesayers. After Pop-Sensations Productions folded, Dustin decided to continue using the space with assistance from James “JJ” Van Lieshout (Straight-Ahead Productions) and created Detune Audio Productions which still exists today.

Detune Audio Productions maintained the two room location on Park St until it was apparent that the size of the space was becoming a limiting factor in the possibilities.  It was clear that a new, larger space would be necessary, so the search began.  After many appointments to see various spaces and reading many lease agreements, a nice space was located tucked away on Madison’s industrial east side.  It was here that the ground work was laid out for Class A Studios, this time all of the necessary planning was undertaken and the city was involved from the start.  The necessary permits were acquired and construction teams were assembled with the proper knowledge and commercial building experience required to build a truly world-class facility.  Many construction phases and recording phases went back and forth (and continue to this day in fact) before the final shape started to come together.  There is still more to come from Class A Studios So keep an eye out for the next evolution in studio recording.
